New
Delhi,
Jan
16:
Amid
burgeoning
demand
for
conferring
"Bharat
Ratna" on
different
personalities,
the
Congress
Party
today
said
it
was
not
necessary
that
the
highest
civilian
award
should
be
given
every
year.
AICC
Spokesman
Abishek
Manu
Singhvi
told
mediapersons
that
the
Congress-led
UPA
government
had
not
conferred
Bharat
Ratna
on
anyone
ever
since
it
came
to
power
in
2004.
"Such an important honour should not be trivialised. It is not possible to give Bharat Ratna to any Tom, Dick and Harry," he said. In this context, he pointed out that it was for the government to decide on who should be given "Bharat Ratna" and it had a committee constituted for the purpose. Referring to developments in Goa, Dr Singhvi said there was no crisis to the Congress-led Digambar Kamat government.
"I heard there were some problems to the government, but "we are confident that we will settle them."
