Chamba, Jan 15 (UNI) At least three people were killed and seven seriously injured after a jeep veered off the road and fell into a gorge in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh today, police said.
The accident occurred near Dadma Mor in the remote Bharmaur area of the district after the driver of the speeding vehicle failed to negotiate a sharp curve.
The police said all the injured had been admitted to a government hospital at Bharmaur where the doctors described their condition serious.
The deceased had been identified as Kashmir Singh, Dheeraj and Chaman Lal, the police said, adding their bodies had been sent for a post-mortem.
The injured had been identified as Jagdish, Balam Singh, Karnail Singh, Gagan Singh, Roshan Lal, Charan Singh and Hama Ram.
The district administration has announced an immediate cash relief of Rs 10,000 each to the next of kin of the dead and Rs five thousand each to all the seriously injured in the accident.
HP Assembly Speaker Tulsi Ram expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of lives and directed the district administration to provide all possible help to the affected families.
Meanwhile, in another accident in the district, four labourers were injured, one of them seriously, while carrying out digging work at a hydel project being set up in the district.
The police said the injured had been admitted to a government hospital at Bharmaur.
