Mumbai, Jan 15 (UNI) Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers recorded an imposing 297 for five off 40 overs and restricted CWC (Central Warehousing Corporation) at 290 with three balls to spare and won the Air India Plate of the All India Public Sector cricket tournament, hosted by Air India at Police Gymkhana ground here today.
RCF, who were put into the bat, saw their opener Chintan Shah going hammer and tong as he alongwith Dinar Gaokar rattled up 123 runs for the second wicket before Gaokar was stumped off by leftarm spinner Arun Sethi for 49.
Chintan went on to remain unbeaten with 153 off 118 balls which contained five sixes and 17 fours.
Chasing such a huge total, CWC needed to score at almost six runs an over. But then they had opener Vikramjeet Singh in the company of Karan Negi, who is known to be having a devil may care attitude, as the pair reached 150 in just 12.5 overs before Negi fell for 77 which included four sixes and 11 fours off just 49 balls.
Thereafter, the CWC batsmen did maintain the run-rate but then they also lost wickets at regular intervals to be bowled out seven runs short of their target.
However, they had the consolation to see Karan Negi, winning the player of the tournament for his outstanding batting throughout the tournament. He was presented with a Mumbai-London-Mumbai ticket.
The individual prize winners were: Player of the tournament: Karan Negi (CWC).
Man of the Match/Best Batsman: Chintan Shah (RCF).
Best Bowler: Shardiq Petkar (RCF).
Best Fielder: Sunil Kulkarni (RCF).
