The amendments made in the Act had diluted it, defeating its very spirit and putting the unaided teachers to the grave risk of the whims of the powers that be, the PCCTU activists said.
A report from Phagwara sad that the union activists of local Guru Nanak College burnt effigy of the ammended Act in the campus and also held a rally.
The amendments empowered employers to take various punitive steps against employees working against unaided posts, including their suspension and sacking, without taking prior approval of the DPI(C), which earlier was mandatory for taking such an action against any category of staff.
