NPF welcomes poll schedule of Nagaland

The
Nagaland
Peoples'
Front
(NPF),
the
major
constituent
of
the
outgoing
Democratic
Alliance
of
Nagaland
(DAN)
coalition
government,
has
welcomed
the
Election
Commision
of
India's
(ECI)
announcement
of
Assembly
elections
in
the
state
on
March
five.
In a release issued here today, NPF press secretary Abu Metha said, ''Despite the undemocratic imposition of President's Rule in Nagaland and the majority still enjoyed by the DAN coalition, the NPF is confident of facing the people's mandate.
''We will go to the people without any apprehension as we have brought about unprecedented development and progress in the state,'' he claimed.
He said those who were responsible for imposition of President's Rule were answerable to the people and called upon all sections of government agencies to contribute towards the conduct of free and fair elections, so that the people would be able to exercise their franchise in an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity.
