Makar Sankranti celebrated with religious fervour
Nashik, Jan 15 (UNI) Makar Sankranti was celebrated with religious fervour here today.
Thousands of people thronged the banks of the Godavari river for a holy dip. The people also floated lamps on the river to show their respect to Godavari.
Devotees also thronged nearby temples, including the Kapaleshwar temple, Kalaram temple, and others.
Kite flying has a special relation with Makar Sankranti, and kites of various sizes and colour crowded the skies in the city and adjoining areas.
As the festival is all about strengthening bonds and casting away hatred, people were seen exchanging the sweet ''tilgul''.
For women, the festival has special importance. Women, particularly the newly-weds, were busy with the ''haldi kumkum'' ceremony.
