Mr Ahirwar had attempted to immolate himself on January 7 in accordance to an earlier announcement in this regard to protest in support of his demand for construction of a school building.
He sustained severe burn injuries and was admitted to Hamidia hospital in the state capital where he succumbed on the night of January 13.
The funeral procession was taken out amid tight security from his paternal residence to local crematorium. Additional Collector Rajesh Kaul, City Magistrate Santosh Tagore, City Superintendent of Police Malay Jain and other officers and police took part in the funeral procession.
Former minister Surendera Choudhary, Sagar BJP President Shailendra Jain, Mayor Pradeep Laria and former legislator Uttam Khateek were present at the funeral.
Mr Ahirwar had submitted a memorandum to the district administration about one month back warning them that he would immolate himself if his demands were not met. The immolation incident had led to hectic political activity in the state.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had ordered Divisional Commissioner L S Baghel to inquire into the incident. Mr Bhagel said evidence was being gathered and report would be submitted soon.
The main opposition Congress had staged demonstration against the immolation incident yesterday. Besides, it had formed a committee -- headed by former minister Vitthalbhai Patel -- to inquire into the incident.
Collector Hiralal Trivedi said memorandums submitted by political parties had been sent to the government. Steps would be taken soon after an application regarding financial assistance and job was received from the deceased's wife in this regard.
