Srinagar, Jan 15: As many as 923 fishermen were covered under Janata Insurance Cover (JIC) in Baramulla district of north Kashmir where a record 26,713 quintals of fish production was registered during the last nine months and about 15 Carp Fish Ponds were established under Prime Minister's programme.
An official spokesman said all the 923 registered fishermen of the Baramulla district were covered under the Janata Insurance Cover (JIC) scheme.
He said about 15 Carp Fish Ponds had been established so far under the Prime Minister's Programme for which educated unemployed were provided Rs 18 lakh, besides 87 low cost houses were constructed at a cost of Rs 23.50 lakh for poor fishermen during the last five years.
The fishers department also sold 15 quintals of trout fish and earned a revenue of Rs 2.25 lakh this fiscal year so far.
He said 13 low cost houses at a cost of Rs 5.20 lakh were being constructed besides 662 mahigeers were being provided nylon thread free of cost during the current fiscal.
Moreover, eight private fish farms would be established under State sector for which Rs 7.20 lakh were being provided to the unit holders, while six existing streams were being stocked with Trout fish seed.
