Haryana earmarks Rs 7.05 crore for welfare of SC students

Chandigarh, Jan 15 (UNI) Haryana Government has decided to provide free school bags to the Scheduled Castes (SC) boys and girls students studying in government schools from first to 8th class and a sum of Rs.7.05 crore has been earmarked under the scheme for the current annual plan 2007-08.

Education Minister Mange Ram Gupta said that with a view to encourage SC students, the State Government had launched this scheme for providing free school bag to 7.05 lakh SC boys and girls students studying in government schools from class first to 8th at the rate of Rs.100 per student.

He said that out of this, 4.98 lakh students from class 1 to 5th and 2.07 lakh students from class 6th to 8th would get the benefit of the scheme.

Mr Gupta said that similarly free jersey, shoes and socks were being given to girl students belonging to Scheduled Castes studying in class first to 8th.

He said that with a view to enroll and encourage these students to study in government schools would be provided free jersey, shows and socks to 3.75 lakh girls students. He said that a sum of Rs 300 would be given to each student from class first to 5th and with this decision 2.41 lakh girls students would get the benefit of this scheme.

Similarly, a sum of Rs.500 would be given to each girl studying in class 6th to 8th and about 95,000 girls students would get the benefit under the scheme. A total outlay of Rs 11.98 crore has been approved for this scheme for the current financial year, he added.

The Education Minister said that the State Government had also decided to give scholarship of excellence to such Scheduled Castes students who excel in academic and extra curriculum activities.

While enumerating the details of the scheme, he said that under the scheme two students, one boy and one girl, who stand first amongst SC boys and SC girls respectively per class per school would be given this scholarhsip on the basis of annual assessment and examination result.

Mr Gupta said that under the scheme, 46,000 SC boy students who stand first in each of first to 5th primary classes and 12,900 SC boy students who stand first in each of 6th to 8th middle classes from amongst SC boys would be covered under this scholarship scheme.

He said that two students of class first would be given an award of Rs.300 each, those of class 2nd Rs.400 each, those of class 3rd Rs.500 each, those of class 4th Rs.600 and those of class 5th to 8th of Rs.750 each with a certificate. A sum of Rs.6.41 crore had been earmarked during the current financial year for this scheme.
