Panaji, Jan 15 (UNI) The Goa Government has diverted about 562 hectares of forest land to facilitate what it called mining and other development projects including Konkan Railway.
Replying to a starred question raised by Ramesh Tawadkar (BJP) in the State Legislative Assembly today, Forest Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues said the Government had, however, afforested 1,187 hectares of land.
The Government was also considering a proposal to undertake village wise cadastral survey for the second time soon. The first one was done in 1970s, which recorded 1,125 sq Km forest area under the Government.
It, however, did not demarcate forest land as dense and degraded, he added.
