Chandigarh, Jan 15 (UNI) The Chandigarh Tourism Advisory Forum (CTAF) today discussed various measures to promote Chandigarh as a tourist destination in its 3rd meeting held under the Chairmanship of renowned Film Director Yash Chopra here.
The CTAF had been constituted sometime back to suggest and advise the Administration in tourist related matters.
While addressing the meeting Mr Chopra called for continued and innovative efforts to promote the city as the best tourist destination. He asked for more direct flights from Chandigarh to other cities so that the time of travel is reduced. He particularly referred to the recently started flights between Chandigarh and Mumbai.
He also put a suggestion to start helicopter services from Chandigarh for different adjoining areas.
He also suggested a tie up of Chandigarh's Hotel Management Institutes with foreign universities to promote the stature of the institutions.
Mr Chopra said that the city and the adjoining areas have all the capability and requirements for a favored film location. He called for more pro-active publicity and marketing for the area in Mumbai and elsewhere. He said that it was a matter of pride that many film directors are choosing Chandigarh for the film shootings.
He also stressed for maintaining and preserving rich cultural heritage of the area.
Mr Chopra, the Chairman of the Forum expressed satisfaction that due action has been taken by the Administration on all recommendations of the Forum.
Mr Vivek Atray, member secretary of the Forum gave a presentation regarding the achievements and highlights of the Administration on various initiatives related to the promotion of tourism. He also informed the Forum Members about the tentative programme and plans regarding the 2nd Chandigarh Film Festival to be held from February 1 to 4.
Mr Chopra also met Adviser to the Administrator, Mr Pradip Mehra.
