Eight persons injured in bomb blast in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, Jan 14 (UNI) Eight persons were injured when a bomb went off near the mass meeting of the seven parties alliance in Kathmandu today.

The bomb exploded underneath the overhead bridge at Bhotahiti this afternoon soon after the seven parties massive mass meeting held to kick off the election campaign concluded.

Local media said a person hurled the socket bomb and slipped into the crowd.

Police officials said the eight persons injured in the incident have been admitted at Bir Hospital for treatment and all are out of danger.

Six persons have returned after treatment and two are still in the hospital.

The bomb also damaged a passenger van and the investigation into the incident has been initiated, police said.

Meanwhile, the leaders of the seven parties have expressed their commitment to hold the election of the constituent assembly in April.

Addressing the massive gathering of people in the open air theatre in Kathmandu leaders of the Nepali Congress, CPN, UML, Maoists and others said the election would be held at any cost.

The election was postponed twice in the past.
