Criminology Conference begins in Bhopal on Jan 18 (with DR 49)

Bhopal, Jan 15 (UNI) Terrorism and the youth, the law against rape, domestic violence, sexual harassment of women, children and dalits will be among several principal issues to be discussed by about 500 experts from India and abroad during the three-day 31st 'All India Criminology Conference' getting underway on January 18 at the National Law Institute University here.

The National Commission for Women, State Woman and Child Development Department, Police Research and Development Institute and the Chennai-based Indian Society of Criminology are cooperating in organising the event that will be inaugurated by Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar.

''The conference will witness four parallel sessions. The governor will honour personages who played a principal role in strengthening the criminal justice system. They are the country's first Indian Police Service officer Kiran Bedi, Dr Arvind Tiwari, Dr Mulimani and Dr Lata Subrahmaniam,'' Organising Secretary G S Bajpai told mediapersons today.

Delegates would include those from the United States, South Africa, Israel, Italy and Bangladesh. A total 21 subjects would be discussed and research papers presented. Criminologists, experts on the criminal justice system, law, social science and psychology, academicians, representatives of tribunals, non-government organisations, mediapersons and students would express their views.
