Hoshiarpur, Jan 15 (UNI) The death of a student of local DAV College, Hoshiarpur while alighting from a bus, today sparked off a protest by the fellow students here.
It is reported that Suchleen of village Kurangna in Hoshiarpur district boarded a private mini bus for coming to college but was forced to alight from a running bus as the driver allegedly did not stop the vehicle near the college.
While de-boarding from the front door, he slipped, fell down and was crushed to death under the rear wheels.
After the accident, the driver and conductor of the bus fled leaving their vehicle at the spot.
To protest the death of Suchleen due to the alleged negligence of the driver, agitated students of the DAV college smashed window panes of the bus and later staged a dharna and blocked vehicular traffic in front of the main gate of the college on Hoshiarpur-Chandigarh road for more than an hour.
The students were demanding immediate arrest of the driver.
They also alleged that they were not being allowed by some of the government as well as private bus drivers to board their buses, despite having bus pass and their complaints to the authorities went unheeded.
The death of the Student was a result of the negligence of the administration, they alleged.
The protesting collegiates dispersed only after DSP Joginderpal Singh intervened and gave assurance that the driver of the bus would be arrested before evening.
