Ferozabad, Jan 14 (UNI) A mob of villagers today set afire a police station after a youth was shot dead in a clash.
A dispute between a salesman, Satyendra, and Karamveer snowballed at a liquor outlet yesterday, in which the latter was killed.
Irked over the incident, a mob pelted stones at Eka police station, besides setting it afire.
Besides, the demonstrators torched several stationary vehicles, including a police jeep.
Seeing the situation getting out of control, police fired in the air to disperse the mob. The villagers also opened fire.
In the ensuing firing, a villager was killed, police said.
Meanwhile, ordering a magisterial probe into the entire episode, District Magistrate Vinay Kumar Saxena said whether the man died of police firing or not would only be clear after investigation.
While Satyendra accused Karmveer of trying to rob him of Rs 27,000, the deceased's family alleged the accused had robbed the victim of Rs 50,000 before shooting him.
Meanhile, police in strength had been garrisoned to avoid fresh violence.
