Puducherry, Jan 14 (UNI) Succumbing to pressure from legislators, the Puducherry administration has decided to provide free garments to all yellow ration card holders, as in the previous year.
A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting Chief Minister N Rangasamy had with Chief Secretary and other officials.
Earlier, it was announced that the Scheduled Caste people would get two sets of free garments for 'Pongal,' while it would be one set for the Backward Class people.
The change in the implementation of the scheme had drawn protest from legislators, who said it would be difficult to answer the people (for breaking with the practice) in their respective constituencies.
Among others, AIADMK state secretary A Anbazhagan, CPI National Council member R Viswanathan, MLA, and state DMK convener R V Janakiraman, had put forward the demand to the government.
