New Delhi, Jan 14 (UNI) More than 250 delegates from several countries, including China, Pakistan, the United Kingdom and Iran, are expected to attend a four-day international conference, beginning here from February 16.
Organised by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), the conference is titled Social Development, Social Movements and the Marginalised: Perspectives and Concerns.
The conference proposes to focus on the composite interface of social development, empowerment, marginalisation, discontents and social movements of the marginalised sections of the population in the globalised world, an IGNOU release said here.
More than 250 delegates from India and other countries such as China, Brazil, Iran, Chech Republic, France, Poland, Australia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, UK, Canada, Russia, New Zealand, South Africa, Switzerland were expected to attend the conference.
''It aims to examine these issues in the context of specific historicity of the society besides contemporary processes of globalisation such as restructuring of economic order, increasing interactivity between the local and global communities, fast expansion of information and communication technologies, proliferation of the knowledge economy and reformulation of the discourses of social development by the state and civil society on the other,'' the release said.
