New Delhi, Jan 14 (UNI) The BJP today sought the intervention of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to sort out 'fighting' between Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit and Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken over regularisation of 1500-odd unauthorised colonies and save its five lakh residents from further hardships.

Former Union Minister Vijay Goel who joined a dharna by residents of Burari and Sant Nagar unauthorised colonies to demand basic amenities today, expressed dismay over the 'silence' of Sonia Gandhi and Dr Singh on the tiff between Ms Dikshit and Mr Maken in regard to regularisation of 1539 unauthorised colonies in the capital.

The BJP National Secretary charged the Shiela Dikshit government for 'sleeping' over the issue for the past nine years and showing 'fake' concern over the plight of these people, with an eye on the upcoming assembly elections in Delhi.

He demanded a clarification from Ms Gandhi and Mr Singh for the delay in regularisation of these colonies.

Refering to the latest statements issued by Mr Maken, Mr Goel asked as to why Mr Maken chose to ignore the Delhi Government's advertisement issued after the November 14 guidelines asking the Residents Welfare Associations to submit layout plans. "Why has he not immediately clarified that such documents are not needed? he asked.

He further alleged that Mr Maken was playing with the future of more than 50 lakh people living in these colonies.

If he had raised the matter immediately, the people would have not paid money to the architectures and brokers to prepare the layout plans.

Mr Goel said both Ms Dikshit and Mr Maken have never visited these colonies and were not aware of the sufferings of these people.

They were just issuing statements sitting in their airconditioned offices.

Mr Goel demanded that all the colonies which had come up till December 2007 should be passed as was done with 500 colonies in 1977.

He said these colonies had come up during the 50 years of Congress rule as the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) failed to provide them cheap houses.

The BJP leader maintained that the Congress was not serious about the issue and was just befooling the people to garner their support in view of the coming elections. It had made promises in every election but did nothing thereafter, he alleged.

Mr Goel said the people in Burari and Sant Nagar were not getting supply of potable water and were compelled to drink unhygienic water supplied by tankers. He also threatened to sit on an indefinite dharna if the Delhi Government failed to provide potable water to the people of these colonies within a month.
