Chennai, Jan 14 (UNI) AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa today offered a sumptuous spread of 45 mouth-watering delicacies in a 'Pongal' feast to BJP's poll mascot and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
''It's a friendly meeting with extraordinary lunch,'' BJP Spokesperson and incharge of party affairs in Tamil Nadu Ravishankar Prasad told waiting newspersons after a two-hour-long luncheon meeting hosted by Ms Jayalalithaa at her Poes Garden residence.
''We had a very good friendly lunch. There were 45 items.
Ms Jayalalithaa was a very generous host,'' he added.
''We discussed the whole range of contemporary issues during the meeting,'' Mr Prasad said, without elaborating.
He said Ms Jayalalithaa congratulated Mr Modi on his thumping victory in the recent Assembly polls in Gujarat.
Asked whether today's meeting took BJP a step closer to the Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK for an electoral alliance, he refused to comment and boarded a waiting car.
Mr Modi chose not to interact with the media despite widespread speculation of an ''electoral marriage'' between the two parties in the wake of Ms Jayalalithaa's invitation to Mr Modi and Mr Prasad for the lunch.
Earlier, Ms Jayalalithaa received him by presenting him a shawl at her residence and Mr Modi reciprocated with a bouquet. After presenting 'prasadams' brought from Sree Krishna temple in Guruvayur to Ms Jayalalithaa, Mr Modi turned towards mediapersons and wished them a happy Pongal.
Unprecedented security arrangements have been put in place in the city in view of the VIP visit and all roads leading to Poes Garden were virtually sealed, with policemen taking position at vantage points.
