Plea to Puthige Mutt Seer to protect tradition
Udupi, Karnataka, Jan 13 (UNI) A meeting of religious leaders today resolved to strongly appeal to Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swamiji of Puthige Mutt to protect the traditions of Sri Krishna Mutt by appointing his successor for the smooth conduct of the Sri Krishna Pooja.
Held under Sri Krishna Pooja Satsampradaya Samrakshana Samiti and attended by Madhwa Peetadhipathis, Vedanta Scholars and devotees of Lord Krishna, the meeting also sought the ascension of sacred 'Sarvajna Peeta' (Paryaya Peeta) by his junior pontiff.
The resolution adopted at the end of the three-hour meeting appealed to the pontiff not to take any steps hurting their feelings.
Later a memorandum was also submitted by the leaders of the Samiti to the representative of the Puthige Mutt.
Speaking at the meeting, Sri Vishvesha Thirtha Swamiji of Pejavar Mutt declared he would undertake a three-day total fasting if no positive development was reached on the issue.
Pejavar Mutt Pontiff also appealed to the Puthige Mutt Pontiff to honour the sentiments of the other swamijis and solve the issue cordially before 'Paryaya' on January 18.
If the traditional rules were broken, it would lead to serious consequences in future, he warned.
The matadhipathis and scholars who addressed the meeting strongly opposed the ascension of 'Sarvajna Peeta' and performance of the pooja by the Puthige Mutt Pontiff for violation of tradition and 'Yathidharma' by his frequent visits to foreign nations which was unpardonable according to Tatwashastra and Vedanta.
