Nepal Home Minister urges massive election participation
Kathmandu, Jan 13 (UNI) Nepal Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula has urged all the political parties in the Himalayan nation to work for making the April 10 Constituent Assembly (CA) election a thumping success.
He specially appealed to political groups of the Terai and other areas to join the campaign for making the CA polls an instrument for transition towards democracy.
''We are at the threshold of transforming the country into federal democratic republic by ending the monarchial system. It is an opportunity to make the people the real owner of this country so the government requests all agitating groups to support this campaign,'' the Minister said in Parliament.
''The CA polls are not for forming government rather it is for deciding the destiny of the people and to institutionalise federal republic structure in the country,'' he added, The Rising Nepal reported.
''We have already committed in the interim constitution for abolition of monarchy and for adopting a federal republic democratic structure in the country,'' Mr Sitaula said while terming the present phase ''a temporary provision in the transition period.'' The Nepal Home Minister further said the government would use all resources at its disposal to ensure that elections were held in a free and fair manner.
