Bhopal, Jan 13: About a crore denizens of Madhya Pradesh have performed mass Surya Namaskar coinciding with Swami Vivekananda's birth anniversary and organised with the objective of enhancing awareness about Yoga besides adopting it as part of routine.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan participated along with roughly 15,000 students in a voluntary 'Aao Yoga Karen Hum' (Come Let Us Do Yoga) programme organised at the local Tatya Tope Nagar Stadium by the School Education Department yesterday. The programme began at 0900 hrs and was broadcast over radio.
Ministers, Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and officials also took part.
Assembly Speaker Ishwardas Rohani performed Surya Namaskar at Jabalpur's Wright Town Stadium along with Mayor Susheela Singh and Collector Sanjay Dubey. ''Yoga makes both the mind and body healthy,'' Mr Rohani said.
Commercial Tax Minister Babulal Gaur and Minister of State for School Education Paras Jain participated at Ujjain while Public Works Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya did likewise at Sagar.
