Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 13 (UNI) A man, who allegedly conned a German woman of over Rs 40 lakh on the pretext of setting up joint business ventures, has been arrested here.
Police said based on a complaint, preferred with the city Police Commissioner, by Collin Schafenburg that she had been allegedly cheated by one Ajith Kumar of Vellanad, near here, during her visit to Kerala, they arrested him.
Schafenburg, a frequent visitor to the State, was planning to settle down here after selling off her property in Germany. She had befriended Ajith Kumar and they decided to start joint ventures.
However, Ajith Kumar had purchased a restaurant at Varkala in 2006 and spent the money that she had given him for his personal needs, police said.
Police have registered a case against Ajith Kumar for criminal breach of trust, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property.
