Immolation bid by mother of dowry victim in Haryana

Hisar, Jan 13: A desperate mother in search of justice attempted self-immolation in front of the SP's residence here today to protest the inaction of the police against the in-laws of her daughter who were demanding dowry.

The guards deployed at the SP's residence snatched the kerosene bottle from Mrs Pushpa Bansal and aborted the immolation bid. The SP was not present at his residece at the time of the incident. Later Mrs Bansal, mother of Shagun told mediapersons that the police was siding with the alleged culprits, who had even been booked in a dowry case following her complaint. The in-laws have even threatened to kill her daughter, she alleged.

She claimed that she took this drastic step to get justice for her daughetr family. She said that her daughter who had a year-old child was mentally depressed.

''We have kept Shagun at a secure place because her life is in danger'' Mrs Bansal said.

Mrs Bansal alongwith her relatives also staged a dharna in front of the SPs residence demanding justice.

Mr Kapoor Singh , SHO, Criminal Investigation Agency (CA) when contacted said that after the registeration of the dowry case, the alleged accused had been granted bail by the High Court. He, however, assured Mrs Bansal that action would be taken against those threatening her and her daughter.
