Panaji, Jan 13 (UNI) Ridiculing reports that Left parties are trying to topple the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre on the Indo-US nuclear deal issue, CPI general secretary A B Bardhan said his party was not in favour of mid-term polls to the Lok Sabha.

''Early polls to the Lok Saha are not in the interest of the nation. Let the elections take place whenever they are due in April or May next year. There is no hurry for elections as far as we are concerned,'' the veteran CPI leader said.

Inaugurating the XIV Goa State CPI Council Conference here today, Mr Bardhan called all Left, Democratic and Secular forces to unite and oust ''communal forces'' which were trying to grab power in the states.

''The socialist and democratic forces should unite to defeat the designs of the communal forces like the BJP which wants to capture power in other states following its success in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh,'' he said.

The electoral reverses that the Congress have suffered in the recent elections does not indicate a ''BJP wave'', he said. The country can progress under the leadership of Secular forces, but not under the leadership of sectarian forces, he said.

Forgetting the sacrifices made by the Secular and Democratic forces in the country and their struggle for freedom, implies forgetting India itself, Mr Bardhan added.
