'Nepal code of conduct to be effective from Jan 16'

Kathmandu, Jan 13: The Election Commission of Nepal had decided to enforce the code of conduct from different dates beginning January 16.

For the government and the non-government organisations, the election code of conduct would be effective from January 16, for political parties it will be after the submission of the closed list of candidacies for proportional voting system while, for the candidates in the fray it would come into effect after the registration of their candidacy, the Nepal EC said yesterday.

The media would also have to follow the code once the election symbols were allocated to the constituent Assembly candidates, it added.

The Nepal EC has set the voting time from 0700 hrs to 1700 hrs (local time) on April 10, the Nepal News reported.

The commission also stated that all the officials deployed for election purposes would be insured for one million rupees.
