BSF jawan arrested in Bengal
Basirhat, Jan 13 (UNI) A Border Security Force jawan, posted at Indo-Bangla border in North 24 Parganas district, was arrested today on the charge of allegedly killing a villager.
Police said the accused jawan, a constable of 126 Bn of the BSF, was arrested following inquiry into the alleged killing of a 33-year -old Balki Purbapara resident under Swarupnagar police station in he district on December 31 last.
The victim was shot dead on the plea that he was fleeing away from the BSF custody.
The victim succumbed to his bullet injuries on way to Bongaon sub -divisional hospital.
The BSF firing caused tension in the area with the local people demonstrating against BSF's ''illegal'' action, while the BSF authorities also inquired the shoot-out incident.
Police said the victim accompanied by a couple of local panchayet leaders visited Gobindapur camp of the BSF on demand while he was held without assigning any reason.
