Plan to digitise South Andaman's land records

Port Blair, Jan 12 (UNI) Andaman and Nicobar (A&N) Administration is working to materialise a project for digitisation of land records, outgoing Deputy Commissioner (DC) of South Andaman K S Singh has informed.

''The survey work has already been started for the digitisation of land records of the entire revenue area of South Andaman district,'' Mr Singh told UNI here yesterday.

''Once fully developed, the technical expertise and knowledge behind the Dweep Bhoomi project would be from the islands itself. We have almost finished digitisation of Ferrargunj Tehsil and within the next two years we will complete the entire project,'' the DC said.

In the first phase the tehsil of Ferrargunj was chosen by the South Andaman District Administration as a pilot project. Surveyors, with hi-tech GPS (Ground Positioning System) devices were deputed to gather data in the Ferrargunj area.

The final images show roads, houses, plantations as well as the officially accepted boundary lines of each plot.

''We have almost finished the work of Ferrargunj Tehsil and soon entire South Andaman's digitised map will be with the South Andaman's district administration, which will help us to serve the public better,'' Mr Singh added.
