Do not commit suicide: Rajnath to Vidarbha farmers
Nagpur,
Jan
11:
BJP
President
Rajnath
Singh
today
urged
the
distressed
farmers
in
Vidarbha
region
of
Maharashtra
not
to
get
depressed
or
commit
suicide,
but
to
stand
up
and
fight
for
their
rights.
Addressing a rally at the end of the party's two-day 'Kisan Yatra' at Yavatmal in the region this evening, Mr Singh said the farmers should resolve not to end their lives and leave no stone unturned in the effort to improve their own lot. They should be prepared to go even to jail in the fight for their rights, and the BJP would support them in their struggle, he added.
The country had remained backward even 60 years after Independence because the interests of farmers had been ignored, Mr Singh said, adding that other countries that achieved Independence around the same time as India had progressed a lot within a few years only because they took care of the farmers and protected their interests.
India would also have progressed and become a developed nation within 30 years of Independence if the interests of the farmers had been protected, the BJP President observed.
