Three sentenced to life imprisonment
New Delhi, Jan 11 (UNI) A city court today sentenced to life imprisonment three people, found guilty in ransom and murder case, committed in November, 2001.
According to the prosecution, Ratan Rai, an officer working in a company, was returning to his house, on the night of November 21-22, 2001,when he was kidnapped by three people near Mathura Road.
Neeraj Chowdhary (Delhi Police Constable), Vikas Yadav, a national level boxer and Rajender Singh kidnapped Rai and demanded Rs 10 lakh from his family as ransom.
Rai was found on the road with grievous injuries later on and admitted to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries on November 29 at Apollo Hospital.
An FIR was registered under Section 120 B (punishment for criminal conspiracy), 364 A (kidnapping for ransom), 387 (putting person in fear of death or grievous hurt in order to commit extortion), 302 (punishment for murder), of Indian Penal Code against the accused persons at Badarpur Police Station.
After hearing the arguments, Additional Session Judge Ravinder Kaur said the police is for the security of people but it has committed such an shameful act and ordered life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000 for all the accused persons.
