Jaipur, Jan 11: Rajasthan has attracted around 2.6 crore domestic tourists and 12.5 lakh foreigners during 2007 till October, recording an increase of 9.77 and 11.38 per cent respectively as compared to corresponding period in 2006.
Talking to reporters here today Tourism Minister Usha Punia said that Tourism Industry was recording satisfactory growth despite rapid changing scenario and growing competition in the sector. She said that the Rajasthan Government had been accorded due priority to tourism sector providing fairly good budgetary support and taking all possible measures to maintain the state's unique identity in tourism sector globally.
As many as 87 tourism infrastructure related projects involving an investment of Rs 395 crore had been sanctioned during the past three years.
The sector is likely to get a big boost in years to come as the Resurgent Rajasthan partnership meet held in Jaipur about a month ago, has attracted investment proposals to the tune of Rs 5000 crore for construction of new hotel units to cater increasing needs of tourism.
She said that memorandum of understanding(MoUs) for the proposed projects had already been signed during the two-day meet which was held in Jaipur on November 30 and December 1.
Besides this, the State government had also formulated a new hotel policy in 2006 and new tourism units policy in 2007 which would also facilitate due growth in the tourism sector.
