Mumbai, Jan 11 (UNI) ''Pranali--the Tradition'', a hard-hitting film, based on the Devdasi system, is scheduled for release in March-April this year.

The film depicts the story of a poor village girl--Pranali, married off to a village deity and then destined to become a prostitute. It projects the dark facets of Pranali's life and unveils forbidden truths of so-called respectable people in society.

Pranali moulds the lives of other fallen women and gives a new definition and direction to their otherwise meaningless lives, a release from Harwad group of companies said.

Producer of the film Nikhil Mathur heads the Harward Group of Companies, which has varied interests in fund managements, investments and securities. The company has also ventured into entertainment, media, advertising and communication services.

Hirdesh Kamble, erstwhile assistant to John Mathew Mathan, Mahesh Bhatt and Vikram Bhatt, has directed the film, which has cinematography by Najeeb Khan. Kailash Kher makes his debut as music director with this film along with Paresh and Naresh.

Pandit Birju Maharaj is the creative director for the 'tandav dance', based on the never-ending journey of a Devdasi.

The cast includes Nargis (of ''Garam Masala'' fame), who plays the title role, along with Upendra Limaye, Raman Trikha, Sudha Chandran, Dippsikha, Vinay Apte, Hemant Pandey, Sujata Segal, Suzanne, Vinod Khemani, Vaidehi, Rohini and Kalpana Sathe, the release added.
