K'taka Guv assures solution to sugarcane farmers' demand
Bangalore, Jan 11 (UNI) Karnataka Governor Rameshwar Thakur today assured to come out with a solution for the demands of sugarcane growers in the State within a week.
Mr Thakur gave this assurance to a delegation of farmers association, which spearheaded an agitation demanding increase in Minimum Support Price (MSP) and payment of arrears due from various sugar factories for the sugarcane purchased.
The Governor was stated to have said that he had held a meeting with the sugar factories recently and he would come out with a solution within one week.
Earlier, thousands of sugarcane growers from various parts of the State took out a procession from the City Railway Station to Raj Bhavan, shouting slogans against the Government.
Farmer leaders Puttannaiah, Kodihalli Chandrasekhar and Kurabur Shanthakumar, who led the protestors, alleged that the Government was keeping quiet, despite huge arrears pending from sugar factories to cane growers since the last one year and the MSP fixed this year being lower.
