Guwahati, Jan 11 (UNI) The big names of the Indian stage, including Habib Tanvir, Farooque Sheikh and Nadira Babbar, would be performing in Guwahati as part of an Urdu Mela in the state.
Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre, who has now made a foray into theatre, will also be joining these stage artists, the organizers informed at a press conference here today.
Director of the National Council for Urdu Language Dr Ali Zaved said, '' The plays will be staged every evening, besides cultural shows, which would reflect not just the Urdu heritage but also combine local traditions and art forms.'' The department of higher education of the Human Resource Development ministry is organizing an Urdu Mela between January 12-16 in the city to popularize Urdu language and encourage youngsters to learn this language.
Stressing the easy amalgamation of numerous Urdu words in the Hindi language, Dr Zaved said, '' Urdu words have also been assimilated into various other Indian regional languages. It's versatility would be highlighted in our endeavour to popularize it.'' On the plays to be staged every evening during the Mela, he said, ''Known names like Habib Tanvir, Farooque Sheikh, Nadira Babbar and Sonali Bendre will be taking part, besides other noted artists.''
