Washington, Jan 11 : After the Golden Globe Awards got cancelled, actor Alec Baldwin is trying to convince the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) to permit its members to attend the Academy Awards ceremony scheduled next month, which he thinks is more important.

Baldwin is hopeful that the actors will not be boycotting the Oscars ceremony as it is more important than the Golden Globe Awards.

"The Globes appear to be dead. The Oscars are next. And there is a monumental difference between those two," Contactmusic quoted him, as saying.

He added: "One is a pleasant evening hosted by a fraternity of international journalists who choose to recognise the work of those they admire. The other is an evening of history. To accept an Oscar is to take one's place among the greatest actors of all time."

The organisers of the Golden Globe Awards were forced to cancel its annual ceremony because SAG denied crossing the Writers Guild Of America's picket line.
