Mumbai, Jan 10 (UNI) Municipal Mazdoor Union today demanded for the withdrawal of contract system of 'Clean-up Marshal' from all the twenty-four wards with immediate effect and also the strengthening of the Nuisance Detectors by increasing the staff for effective implementation of clean-up drive in the metropolis.
Addressing Mediapersons the Union General Secretary Sharad Rao said here that the contract system of clean-up drive is totally a failure because fine collection of contract marshals has declined by almost 50 per cent compared to BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) staff.
Elaborating about it Mr Rao said that the corporation has awarded a contract of five Wards to 'Trig' contractor. But, the agency has failed to deposit the fine collected with the administration for last one-and-half months and no action has been taken against them.
The Union has also demanded for the withdrawal all engineers of various categories, from supervising work of collection and transportation of garbage silt, debris and other work, who were appointed in the last two years.
He said all the supervisory staff from Junior overseers to head supervisor, supervising the work of collection and tranportation of garbage silt debris were sitting on 'Dharna' today at Azad Maidan for the withdrawal of engineers.
A delegation will meet Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak and Mayor Subha Raul late in the evening today to discuss on the issue, Mr Rao added.
