Bhubaneswar, Jan 10 (UNI) Two hardcore Naxalites, involved in several cases of killing and extortion, were arrested by the Special Operation Group (SOG) during a combing operation inside the Mangipalli jungle, 90 km away from Malkangiri today.
Malkangiri Superintendent of Police S K Gojbhiye told UNI over phone that acting on a tip off, the SOG raided the hideout of the ultras and arrested Madi Soma and Malkani Singha.
Other Naxals, however, managed to flee from the scene.
He said during interrogation later on, the two disclosed the location of a cave inside the jungle where arms and ammunition had been kept but by the time police raided the cave, the ultras had decamped with the SLR and 303 rifles.
The SOG, he said, recovered several literatures of using high explosives, and improvised methods of blasting besides huge explosive materials.
The arrested were presented at a news conference in Malkangiri and they confessed their role in various killings and landmine blasts in the district.
The SP said the two ultras belonged to Motu Dalam of the Naxalite group and engaged in collecting huge money from the traders.
The two were later produced before a local magistrate, who sent them to jail custody.
