Tata launches people's car, Nano
New Delhi, Jan 10 (UNI) Tata Motors, the country's largest automobile manufacturer today launched the eagerly awaited 624cc (33 horse power) Rs one lakh car and christened it, Tata Nano.
''Since, promise is a promise the standard dealer version will cost Rs one lakh,'' said Tata Sons Chairman Ratan Tata.
He informed that the car is eight per cent smaller bumper to bumper, than the Maruti 800 but at the same time 21 per cent larger in its interiors and can seat up to four people.
Dispelling myths that the car was not safe enough, Mr Tata said, ''the car has passed the full-frontal crash and the side impact crash''. He also side stepped emission concerns and said the car will meet Euro IV norms.
The car will be available in many variants which will include one standard version and two deluxe versions with AC.
