Lucknow, Jan 10: Inspite of a stern warning by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, the Samajwadi Party (SP) continued its protest in various parts of the state for the second day today resulting in chaos in many cities.
The issue had snowballed on January 8, when the SP activists were protesting here for restoration of the student union election. Wherein, the alleged manhandling with SP leader Shivpal Singh, enraged the party workers.
According to reports received from Etawah, the last rites of the student Mukesh Yadav, who was killed during police firing yesterday, has been performed under tight security cover this morning at Saifai, home town of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The SP workers continued their agitation today, affecting vehicluar movement in Etah, Ballia, Etawah, Faizabad and Aligarh.
Reports from Etawah said that a mob torched one bus in Jaswantnagar area. The SP acitivists, who had called for Etawah Bandh today, tried to obstruct road traffic at different places and raised anti-government slogans.
The protestors also burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister. To disperse the mob, police lathi-charged the agitators and five people were injured.
Sources also said that police fired in the air to disperse the mob.
Additional Director General of Police(Crime, Law and Order) Brij Lal said ''the situation was fast turning to normal and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere.'' He said that the situation in Etawah was normal even after reports of some minor clashes there.
