Road accidents rise, toll less in MP
Bhopal, Jan 10: The government has claimed that though road accidents marked a 10 per cent rise annually due to increase in number of vehicles, the death toll in Madhya Pradesh marked a decline due to a massive campaign to adopt safety measures.
Death of pedestrians in road accidents also declined by 8.7 per cent in 2006 as compared to the previous year, official sources said today.
As many as 5327 people were killed in road accidents in Madhya Pradesh in 2005 and 5318 in 2006. A total of 903 persons were killed in accidents involving two-wheeler riders in 2005 and 741 in 2006, marking about 18 per cent decline, the sources added.
