Mysore, Jan 10 (UNI) The modernisation of Mysore Airport will be completed by January 2009, Airport Authority of India (AAI) Deputy General Manager M N N Rao said today.
Inspecting the work progress at the airport here, Mr Rao told newspersons that the first phase of works were in progress and it would be complete by this year.
Mr Rao said the 1740-metre-long runway would be ready by April this year and the works on terminals would start shortly.
He said in the second phase, the airport would be developed into a full-fledged airport with facilities to accommodate large commercial passenger airlines like Airbus 321.
The state government had already started the land acquisition process for the same.
Mr C H Vijayashankar MP said the development of the airport had necessitated a change in the alignment of National Highway 212, connecting Mysore with Nanjangud.
He said the survey works for the realignment had been taken up by the highway authorities and proposals were sent to Centre for approval.
