Mahatma Gandhi acknowledged existence of Lord Ram :Singh
Sewagram, (District Wardha-Maharashtra), Jan 10 (UNI) BJP President Rajnath Singh today said the Congress was trying to deny the existence of Lord Ram when even Mahatma Gandhi had acknowledged the fact.
Speaking at the launch of the party's two-day 'Kisan Yatra' in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra here, Mr Singh said Mahatma Gandhi's last words were ''Hey Ram''!. Gandhiji's favourite Bhajan was ''Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, Patit Pawan Sita Ram,'' he said.
''Could the Father of the Nation have uttered Lord Ram's name and prayed to Him if he did not believe in His existence? Mahatma Gandhi could not have done this without knowing that Lord Ram existed,'' Mr Singh said. However, it was unfortunate that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, led by the Congress, which swore by Mahatma Gandhi's ideals, had submitted an affidavit in a court asserting that there was no historical evidence to show that Lord Ram ever existed.
How could the government cast even a shadow of doubt over a matter of faith of millions of Indians', the BJP President asked. It was akin to a boy asking for proof that his father was, indeed, his father, he said.
Mr Singh criticised the UPA government for what he termed were its attempt to demolish Ram Sethu, a structure that had been constructed by Lord Ram. It was unfortunate that the Congress was trying to demolish a structure constructed by Lord Ram, whose existence had been acknowledged by Mahatma Gandhi, he added.
Earlier, Mr Singh visited Bapu Kuti here and paid homage to the Father of the Nation before formally launching the Kisan Yatra.
