DMDK denied permission for procession on MGR's birth anniversary

Madurai, Jan 10 (UNI) The city police today denied permission to the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) to take out a procession here on the birth anniversary of late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK founder M G Ramachandran on January 17.

Police sources said the permission was denied to the DMDK to prevent any untoward incident. The police also directed the DMDK functionaries not to hoist party flags near the MGR statue till 1200 hrs that day. Thogh they were allow to garland the MGR statue at 0100 PM on that day.

However, permission was granted to the AIADMK to take out a procession from K K Nagar to the statue near the District Court Complex on Melur Road here.

It may be recalled here that the AIADMK and DMDK cadres clashed over paying tributes to MGR on his 20th death anniversary on December 24 last, leading to the arrest of ten DMDK men and 16 AIADMK men.
