BSP demands UPA govt provide SPG cover to Mayawati

Lucknow, Jan 10 (UNI) The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) today again asked the Centre to provide SPG security cover to its supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati '' in view of the threat to her life.'' In a high-level meeting chaired by Ms Mayawati and attended by party coordinators here, the BSP hit out at the Congress for its ''indifferent attitude'' on the issue and authorised the Chief Minister to take a decision on withdrawal of support to the UPA government at the Centre.

Yesterday, Ms Mayawati had said senior leaders of the BSP would converge in New Delhi after January 15 for consultations on whether the party should continue to support the UPA.

The BSP has 19 MPs in the Lok Sabha and seven in the Rajya Sabha.

The party coodinators demanded that the Centre should immediately provide SPG security cover to the Chief Minister as there was threat to her life.

The meeting also gave a clarion call to the party cadre for 'Naye Varsh Mein Nayee Gati (new speed in the New Year)' to increase its popularity and stregthen base all over the country.

Earlier, Swami Prasad Maurya was appointed as the new state party president by Ms Mayawati.
