Jaipur, Jan 10 (UNI) Suspended Orissa cadre senior IPS officer B B Mohanty was today remanded to 14 days judicial custody, after his bail application was rejected by the court.

Lal Kothi SHO Sugand Chand Panwar said B B Mohanty had surrendered in the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court II of Rajendra Bansal this morning. The court rejected his bail petition and sent him to judicial custody till January 23.

B B Mohanty has been accused of abetting his son Bitti Mohanty in jumping parole after being convicted of a seven year jail term by a fast tract court in the rape of a German woman in March 2006.

Bitti was granted a 15-days Parole on November 20, 2006 to see his ailing mother. Bitti's father and senior IPS officer of the Orissa cadre Bidhya Bhushan Mohanty had given surety for the parole of his son from the Jaipur Central Jail.

But Bitti even after the expiry of his parole on December 4, 2006 failed to return to jail and has been absconding. His father is accused of abetting his son who has been served a Non-Bailable Warrant by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court II of Jaipur but the Orissa High Court came in the execution of the NBW on which the Rajasthan police approached the Supreme Court.

Senior Mohanty also approached the apex court challenging the NBW issued against him by the Rajasthan court. But the apex court refused to entertain his bail petition and asked him to surrender in the court in Rajasthan as a condition for hearing his bail plea.

Mohanty had then sought two weeks time for his surrender.
