UP govt dissatisfied with progress of NREGP in Bundelkhand
Lucknow, Jan 9 (UNI) Showing dissatisfaction over the ongoing National Rural Employment Guarantee Program (NREGP) in the drought-hit Bundelkhand region, the Uttar Pradesh government has warned the officials of stern action for any laxity.
'' Only 15 to 20 per cent people are provided employment under the programme in the gram panchayats, which is not satisfactory, '' UP chief secretary Prashant Kumar Mishra said in a review meet in the impoverished Bundelkhand yesterday.
''The gulity officers, who would commit dereliction of duty, can not only be suspended, but even be dismissed,'' he maintained.
He also ordered the Divisional Commissioners and District Magistrates to review the relief work every Monday.
''Each village should have at least one pond...besides, old and non-functional handpumps should be replaced by new ones soon,'' Mr Mishra directed the officials.
Till now, Rs 380 crore have been given for the development works in the drought affected Bundelkhand region, he added.
