Power supply of 2.17 lakh 'non-payers' disconnected
Chandigarh, Jan 9 (UNI) Under its ongoing drive to disconnect the supply of the non-paying consumers, the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam has disconnected the connections of 2,17,270 consumers upto December 31 during the current financial year.
A spokesman said here today that the Nigam had disconnected the supply of 45,212 non payers in Operation Circle Ambala comprising Ambala and Panchkula districts, 42,242 in Yamunanagar, 38,289 in Kurukshetra comprising Kurukshetra and Kaithal districts, 26,421 in Karnal, 24,610 in Panipat, 14,432 in Rohtak, 12,897 in Jind, 11,353 in Sonepat and 1,814 in newly created Jhajjar Circle.
He said the Nigam had to recover a sum of Rs 177 crore from these non payers out of which Rs 81.59 crore had been recovered by making disconnections.
The Nigam would disconnect supply of those non payers on priority basis who had not opted for the Electricity Bills Waiver Scheme.
