Bhagalpur, Jan 09 (UNI) The district administration today sent an SOS call to the energy ministry, following coal crisis at NTPC, Kahalgaon, which adversely affected the electricity generation at the unit.
Additional General Manager of Kahalgaon NTPC Indrajeet Dutta here today said the Kahalgaon unit had been facing serious crisis due to shortage of coal supply from Rajmahal coalfields of Eastern Coalfield Limited(ECL).
The Kahalgaon unit requires 17,500 tonnes of coal each day but ECL was unable to provide it, he added.
Mr Dutta said that only 9,000 tonnes coal was left in the reserve of the unit and the crisis may lead to the closure of any of the 210 megawatt NTPC unit here. The electricity generation was also reduced from 840 megawatt to 700 megawatt per day.
