Centre to approve construction of ring-road around twin cities

Hubli, Jan 9 (UNI) The Centre will soon give its approval for laying ring-road around the twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad to ease the traffic congestion, Union Minister of State for Surface Transport K H Muniyappa said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said survey work for the same was underway and the ring-road would link three National Highways around the twin cities. The Centre had also sanctioned Rs 80 crore for repair of National Highways in Karnataka, which had submitted 23 proposals, he added.

The Centre would only provide funds and it was the responsibility of the State to maintain the quality of the highways, he added.

The Minister said overloading of trucks, mainly the ore laden vehicles damaged the highways and added the State Government should take stringent action against overloading of trucks.

Replying to a question, Mr Muniyappa said it was the right of Kannadigas to get their share in 'D' grade recruitment of railways and assured that he would bring it to the notice of the concerned.

Expressing hope that the Congress would get a majority in the coming mid-term election to the State Assembly, he said the party would be benefited due to the corrupt policies of earlier JD(S)-BJP coalition Government.
