Andhra girls rescued from brothels sent on transit remand
New Delhi, Jan 9 (UNI) A city court today sent 51 girls hailing from Andhra Pradesh, who were rescued from brothels of G B Road on Monday night, on transit remand and directed the state police to produce them before a local court there before January 14.
The court also ordered the 24 pimps arrested to be handed over to the custody of the Andhra police.
These girls were rescued from G B road under Kamla market police station, on the information that pimps were trafficking girls from Andhra Pradesh and forcing them into prostitution.
The raid was conducted by the Andhra police in coordination with Delhi police and an NGO.
Most of the girls rescued belong to Anant Pur, Kadappa, a Chittaur village of Andhra Pradesh.
The court took serious objection to the conduct of the State police for not taking the rescued girls to Nirmal Chaya, as directed by the court yesterday. The state police kept the girls in the Andhra Bhavan during the night, contrary to the direction of the court.
